In one sentenceNeon Plato collects your email address, sends it to Kit so the newsletter can reach you, and does nothing else with it.

Neon Plato is an independent publication operated by one person in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This page explains what happens to your information when you subscribe to the newsletter or watch the YouTube channel.

What is collected

When you subscribe, you give an email address. That is the only thing asked for.

The newsletter is sent using Kit, an email service provider based in the United States. Kit records standard email engagement data on our behalf: whether a message was opened, whether a link was clicked, and an approximate location derived from IP address. Kit stores this on its own servers under its own privacy policy.

What it is used for

Your email address is used to send you the Neon Plato newsletter. Engagement data is used to judge whether the writing is landing, and to stop sending to addresses that have gone dead. It is not used for anything else.

Your email address is never sold, rented, or traded to advertisers.

Other creators

The sign-up form on this site is plain HTML and loads no third-party script, so nothing is recommended to you here. Kit's Creator Network may still show you one other newsletter on Kit's own confirmation pages or in Kit's emails. Joining it is your choice, it is a separate subscription, and it is handled by Kit rather than by Neon Plato.

Unsubscribing and deletion

Every email carries an unsubscribe link at the bottom. It takes one click and takes effect immediately.

To have your data deleted entirely rather than just unsubscribed, email nexscapehub@gmail.com and it will be removed from Kit. Under Canada's PIPEDA you may ask what personal information is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, and ask for it to be deleted. Use the same address.

How long it is kept

Your email address is kept while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, Kit retains the record marked as unsubscribed so that you are not accidentally re-added. If you ask for deletion, the record is removed.

The YouTube channel and YouTube API Services

Watching Neon Plato videos on YouTube is governed by YouTube's and Google's own policies, not this one. Neon Plato does not receive your identity from YouTube — only the aggregate, anonymous channel statistics YouTube reports to every creator.

Neon Plato operates a private application that uses YouTube API Services to upload Neon Plato's own videos to Neon Plato's own YouTube channel and to set their titles, descriptions and thumbnails. The application is not distributed to anyone, has no users other than the channel owner, and accesses no channel other than Neon Plato's. It does not read, display, aggregate, or redistribute any other person's YouTube content or data.

By using YouTube you are also agreeing to the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of any information collected through YouTube is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

What the application stores, and how it is deleted. The application stores exactly one thing: an OAuth credential authorising it to upload to the Neon Plato channel. It stores no data belonging to viewers, subscribers, or any other YouTube user, and it requests no Google account data from anyone. That single authorisation can be revoked at any time from the Google security settings page, which immediately and permanently ends the application's access. Any stored authorisation data is deleted within 30 days of revocation or of the application being retired, whichever comes first.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes affecting how subscriber data is used will be announced in the newsletter itself.
